Colonial Hills Varsity Boys Basketball back to State Finals

The Colonial Hills Varsity Boys Basketball team finds themselves back in familiar territory as they are in the ICSGA State Final four this week at Columbus State University.  “This year has been particularly an interesting one.” Head Coach Pete Johnson remarked.  “After losing 6 seniors off last year’s Final Four team and losing our starting point guard due to financial hardship, it looked as though it would be a long season.”   “God has really blessed our team this year and we make a big deal about that” Johnson said. Without a player over 6 feet, the Rams have consistently competed against teams with much larger front and back courts. Led by senior ‘s Derek  Harris 15ppg,9 Rpg,  Davon Kennedy 10ppg, 3spg, 5 Rpg and Sophomore point guard Eric Johnson 16ppg, 2 spg, 5 apg the Rams surprised everyone by finishing 7-3 in the region and tied for second.
                Last Friday night Colonial Hills traveled to Columbus Ga. to battle it out against the number two seed Grace Christian.  The Rams, led in scoring by Johnson with 21 and Harris with 19 knocked of the Crusaders  52-48. Sophomore guard Eric Johnson had 8 points going into the 4^th quarter. “Grace did a really good job on Eric in the first half and even better in the 3^rd, I don’t think he got but about three shots off and didn’t score at all. That’s when Derek Harris stepped up and scored 7 of his 19” Johnson remarked.  In the fourth quarter with the Crusaders leading by five Johnson hit two big three’s and scored 13 of his 21 to propel the Rams to a come from behind victory over Grace.  “It was totally a team effort, Davon Kennedy, who usually scores 10 a night for us, stepped up and played great defense sacrificing his points and our bench really contributed in the win as well.”
                The Rams will face off against Cumberland Christian Thursday night in the 1-A State Semi match up.  Tipoff is set for 8:30pm at Columbus State University.
